Bursaries
Gaada is inviting individuals based in Shetland to apply for its annual Workshop Bursary and new Access Bursary awards.
These awards aim to support individuals to overcome barriers they may experience in accessing creative development in Shetland.

Workshop Bursary
The Workshop Bursary supports exploration of new ways of working that utilise the facilities and support of the Toogs Artist Workshop. The Workshop Bursary recipient can access:
(4 x) 3-hour Workshop sessions
One-to-one support from staff to develop
and/or realise your workIn-kind materials/production budget
Suggested Approach to a Workshop Bursary
To make the best use of the Bursary’s limited timespan, we encourage you to bring loose ideas, to the workshop space and see what emerges during the sessions. Past examples have included:
Creating a small zine or artist book
Creating a body of new experimental works
Developing skills through processes like screen printing, etching, risography, linocut, letterpress, or book binding.
Framework
Workshop bursary takes place over 4 x 3 hour sessions
Sessions take place on Tuesdays or Wednesdays during workshop hours (0930-1700)
Recipients agree to write a short blog after completing their bursary sessions (Gaada can help if you need!)
Access Bursaries
In 2024 Gaada are offering two new Access Bursaries. The purpose of the Access Bursaries are to reduce some of the financial burden associated with pursuing creative development.
If you have wanted to become a member of Shetland Artists and attend Open Access, but have been unable to due to financial stress, this is an award for you!
Access Bursaries (x 2 on offer) provide:
1 years free Shetland Artists Membership
(4 x) free Open Access sessions at the Toogs Artist Workshop.
In-kind materials budget
Framework
Access Bursary sessions must take place before March 2025.
Access Bursaries can only be used during Open Access sessions, which take place on Wednesdays between 2.00pm – 5.00pm.
Recipients agree to provide private feedback at the end of the access bursary.
Important Dates
Applications deadline: 23th August 2024 (23:59)
Deadline extended till 30th August 2024 (23:59)!
All applicants notified: 6th September 2024
Successful recipient announced: September 2024
Bursary must be complete: February 2025

Eligibility
Applicants must be living in Shetland, and aged 18 years or over.
Applicants must agree to the Award Framework (above) + Important Dates (outlined on the right).
Applicants do not need any formal art experience to apply for this opportunity!

The application form is the same for both types of bursary, and consists of a short written statement sharing your interests, what barriers you are experiencing, and up to 5 images of your work. Apply by clicking the button below.
