Struan x Gaada for V&A Dundee

Scotland’s museum of design, the V&A Dundee, have launched three exclusive new editions by artist Struan Haswell + Gaada.

We are delighted to reveal that these collaborative editions were commissioned by the museum and are now available to purchase through the V&A Dundee Shop - which focuses on showcasing the very best of Scottish design.

The editions build upon Struan’s popular text-based “Struan Sayings” badges which accompanied his 2021 exhibition “I will not give up on a list of things I like to stay the same without endingat Toogs Artist Workshop, Burra.

Struan’s work explores his deep interest in wildlife observation of both the Human and Natural World. His weekly studio practice often begins with him creating lists which gather points of intrigue and perplexion that he then develops through drawing and printmaking.

Characterised by the pairing between his “no-nonsense” drawing style and hopeful, humorous (and often profound) statements - Struan’s work is always hot in pursuit of a world where everything just makes sense. Struan is a visual artist, volunteer Zoo-keeper, and one of the longest-serving members of the Toogs Artist Workshop - a neurodiverse creative community and making space run by the artist-led social enterprise, Gaada.

“ What an amazing achievement! We are so chuffed for Struan! Gaada has been working with Struan through Weekly 121 Workshops for nearly 6 years now, but it feels like he is only really just getting started and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

This commission perfectly illustrates one of Gaada’s core values - that everyone has the potential to thrive when they are able to access adequate support and resources. We hope this story will not only lead people to Struan’s work but also help to increase awareness around the social enterprise’s own work providing creative support and resources to people in Shetland.
