The Hairst Peer Group Work Share discussing Susan Pearson’s recent etchings and monoprints

On Saturday 13 May, Peer Group will reconvene for the Simmer gathering, which will take the form of a Work Share to end the years programme.

This small, focused session is limited to 6 people, and is an opportunity for artists to share their work, research, and ideas with a more intimate group. Engaged discussion and mutual support is encouraged in these sessions which provide a valuable tool in helping artists buid confidence to push their work in new and exciting directions.

So, if you're a Shetland based artist looking for a sounding board or to connect with your local peers, we invite you to sign up using the link above.

This season, Peer Group a has already gathered for a Work Share (Hairst), attended a film screening (Yul), and hosted a pot luck dinner (Voar). During the last session, the group elected to finish the year with an artist Work Share which is slated to take place on Saturday 13th May 2023.

The Future

This session will also start an important process of gathering feedback on the future shape of the Peer Group programme which is evolving. Don’t worry - Gaada remains committed to providing an inspiring platform where Shetland based artists can connect, build relationships, share aspirations and learn from our collective experience. It’s just getting better!

In the meantime past information on Peer Group can still be found here.

Peer Group is made possible through the generous support of Creative Scotland and Shetland Charitable Trust.

Peer Group’s Voar Pot Luck Dinner

We have been so busy upgrading the Toogs Artist Workshop that we forgot to share the success of the Voar Pot Luck Dinner!

Back in a snow-laiden February, ten artists gathered in the Toogs Workshop to share some delicious vege home cooking. The gathering provided an relaxed and homely space for artists to connect, share food, and discuss their art projects during what can feel like an isolating and dark winter month.

Some of the savory and sweet dishes that were brought included sweet potato soup, pizza, vegetable dahl with basmati rice, beetroot tart, vegetable kedgeree, peanut butter cookies, and brownies.

The group was joined by Gaada’s Artist-in-Residence, Rosalie Schweiker, who made some amazing visual notes during the event - capturing some of the topics discussed, from art techniques to life as an artist based in Shetland and beyond. We look forward to sharing more food (and art) with you in the future!
