Eetum Peetum Penny Pie by Isabel Greenberg is the next exhibition to take place in Display** from 11th December 2020 to 24th January 2021.

Starting with the archive of material amassed by Gaada and members of Up Helly Aa for Aa, Isabel was intrigued by the contrast she saw between the historical importance of women’s work in the fabric of Shetland society with the continued exclusion of women from parts of the Lerwick festival. The starting point for the piece was a book which detailed transcripts from historical witch trials on Shetland and Orkney. The two screen prints ‘The Corbei-ing Witch’ and ‘The Ship Sinking Witch’ play on the harmless language of children’s counting songs with the supposed sinister crimes of two witches. One who is tried for sinking ships, and the other who turns herself into a raven and cannot change herself back.

Isabel Greenberg is an illustrator, writer and graphic novelist. She is the author of three acclaimed graphic novels ; The Encylopedia of Early Earth, The One Hundred Nights of Hero and Glass Town. She also illustrates children’s books and is a lecturer in illustration at Camberwell College of Arts.

This new body of work has been developed in response to Weemin's Wark, Gaada’s 2021 Visual Art Programme in partnership with Glasgow Women’s Library and local equalities group Up Helly Aa For Aa. Weemin’s Wark is funded by Creative Scotland.

**Display is a new distanced outdoor gallery space located outside the Gaada workshop in Burra Isle, Shetland. Gaada welcomes visitors to view the current Display within the gravelled area outside the building, however we politely request that at this time, visitors do not enter the building without prior appointment. This ensures Gaada is able to continue maintaining a safe working environment within the workshop.
