Creative Scotland confirms support for 2021/22
Creative Scotland confirms support for Gaada’s 2021/22 programme of visual art and community-led activities.
Gaada is excited to announce the organisation has been awarded £93,566 from Creative Scotland for our 2021/22 visual art programme that aims to generate meaningful creative outcomes and lasting local resources by extending the safe space of Gaada’s visual art workshop, out into the Shetland landscape (and back again)!
The new 2021/22 visual art programme directly builds upon the local learning that emerged during Weemin’s Wark, a 16 month programme which saw Gaada working with Shetland communities, local and international artists throughout Covid to develop and deliver dynamic visual art workshops, public events, cultural research, and publishing activities in Shetland.
The programme for the forthcoming year will see Gaada continue to focus on developing new local resources which create space and fosters inclusivity for underrepresented voices within Shetland’s visual culture.
In addition to enabling the visual art programme, this funding compliments existing support from the Shetland Charitable Trust for Gaada’s core activities which focus on providing creative development opportunities to a wide variety of Shetlanders through weekly One-to-One Workshops, Peer Group, Workshop Bursaries, Public and Private Workshops, and exhibitions in Display.
This combined support is providing stability of regular and fair pay for Gaada’s art workers for the first time. This security is a vital step toward developing Gaada’s organisational capacity and will ensure the organisation can continue building a more inclusive visual art culture in Shetland and beyond.
We are excited to announce full details of the 2021/22 programme very soon. Thank you all for being part of Gaada’s growing community.
