The Illustrated Freelancer's Guide

Gaada is excited to host the launch of The Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide, as the first event in our 2021/22 Peer Group programme.

Produced by writer Heather Parry and illustrator/comics artist Maria Stoian, The Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide is a downloadable, accessible resource for Scottish freelancers across the creative arts (and beyond).

This highly practical guide will take information that’s often inaccessible and turgid and present it in a way that is easy to understand, utilising Maria Stoian’s inimitable comics style throughout, and will be available for free for anyone who needs it. It will cover such topics as how to set up as a sole trader, best practices for managing money and taxes, what legal protections are available to freelancers and how to use them, and even templates for use when payment is late or unforthcoming.

This project is designed to remove some of the barriers freelancers face when trying to inform themselves of their rights and protections, and help Scottish freelancers to take back their agency with education — and great visuals — at their fingertips.

We will hear directly from Heather and Maria before the conversation opens for questions and to create a safe space to discuss our own experiences as freelancers.
